New Addition To Pionus Aviary
This project started September 2004 for this addition...
|
This addition is going to run the length of the aviary which is 36 feet long plus the two foot over hang at each end. It will be 6 feet wide on the inside area. At this time there will not be a cement slab, it will consist of dirt. Birds will be accessed from this area once completely enclosed, I will still enter the main aviary to access some of the bird's food and water. I will clean under the cages that are hanging on over the dirt part which is actually on the outer part of the aviary from within the new addition. |

Here it is starting out. We dug holes for the
posts and then poured cement in each of the holes
and used the metal post support in the cement. The posts will be
secured to these at the bottom.
We start at the north end when the posts start going up. Reg had to
cut off the fascia board on the
front of the aviary so the new roof could be added on.
Now there are a couple of posts up in place and has
some temporary support to hold the posts.
There is also a couple of boards going across which are rafters.

This is the same spot as above photo but from a
different view. We are using 4"x6" beams and using
beam/post brackets to adjoin the two areas together.

Reg has been using a laser to get everything as
straight as possible and it works pretty good!
Here he is checking to see that everything looks aligned.

If you look carefully where he has the tip of the
pencil is where you will see the laser light.

This section is at the north end of where we have
started.

Boards being added across the top.

Adding some hardware to the brackets.

Oh my! All of a sudden here is more that has gone up in
place,
although it took quite a while to get it to this point. This is at the
north end looking towards the south end.

This view is also at the north end looking to the south
from outside of the chain link fence .
This shows along the top of the rafters. The house in the background
is the neighbors house.
On the left is the small (4' x 8') aviary that Kuka (B&G Macaw) stays in
during the summer.

This is at the south end and Reg is attaching the upper
brackets to secure the
Beam and post together. In the background you see the back side of
the Macaw Aviary.
For the beam we are using 2 -12 foot lengths and 2 - 8 foot lengths
to get the total 40 feet.

Here is the one doing all the hard at work - Reg.

This shows with the OSB on top of the rafters now.

Standing outside at the south end corner.

Standing at the North end corner.

The next 3 photos show the Skylight added in the
center.

The skylight is a 4' long by 2' wide area, the top of
the skylight is an opaque finish.

This shows as you walk up to the aviary. This
will also have walls
added on in between each post that you see and will have some
type of opening for plexy windows and will have wire on it to prevent
birds from getting to the outside.

This is near the South end looking towards the North.
