Most Everything here for your Bird Toy Making, is known to be safe with Safety In Mind. There are many
things that I see that are not what I would call Bird Safe Items and
should not be sold as bird toy items. Also even the best looking bird toys
that you think are safe are often not as safe as you would think.
Monitoring bird toys is a must to obtain safety.
I see items being sold by others that are very
dangerous that a bird can get caught or entangled in. Many items can
become a hazard.
Many plastic items that are not the right types of plastic for a bird to
be chewing on. There are many types of brittle plastics that should
not be given to birds.
Many types of ropes and twines should not be given to
birds. Braided type ropes should not be given to birds at all.
Braided ropes can entangle the bird very easily, plus the fibers inside
the braided rope is not that safe, most are real stringy and can get
caught around the birds toes and can cause strangulation.
Here is the type of COTTON ROPE that we
use and sell and is proven to be bird safe.
Just because you see a web site or bird toys sold in
stores that sells a lot of different bird toys or parts doesn't mean its
all safe items. Some places state that all their items are bird
safe, but sometimes they are not all safe. I have walked into well
known large pet stores that we are all familiar with among smaller stores
and have seen toy items that I would not begin to consider as safe toys or
safe toy parts and should have not been considered for the bird toy
market.
Look at this
type ball that should NOT be used, its not
meant for birds and should not really be used, they are for kids.
This I discovered these baby
links not being so safe for the birds after I was selling them
on the site, so I immediately removed the item so they could not be
purchased by my customers.
As I find proper items for bird toys or bird toy parts,
it is added to the catalog. I see too many toy part items
that should not be considered for birds.
As far as zinc plated items go such as quick links,
some people are not comfortable using them, our metal parts we sell are
nickel plated or stainless steel on our Hardware page. I have used
zinc plated items and have not had any problems but you never know when
there could be a problem, it is known that flakes or pieces have to be ingested to be harmful.
These metal items should not be left in the bird's water and then drank as
that could not be good, so should you find a metal piece like a quick link
or something in your bird's water, then change the water and dry of the
wet metal before using again.
