Thanks for checking us out on our website... if you are wanting to visit us, it's most likely because you are interested in a Pionus baby. Most people that come to visit us and their baby bird are people who usually have made a deposit on a baby bird and if close enough to us, they will make a few trips here to visit their baby while it's still being hand fed. Some people that are a bit too far away will come here only when it is time to pick up their baby. Either way is fine! I generally do not have people who come here just to look, in fact I will most likely prevent you from coming here if that's the case. Some people will think they need to see the breeder birds in order to make a decision upon selecting a baby... this simply is not neccessary to do at all. If you have researched our website and other websites or have read articles on Pionus or parrots in general you will know what you really want in a parrot. Visiting a young baby bird will not help you to determine if it is right for you. The reason I say this is because a young baby bird is not anything like it is a bit later on when he/she starts maturing, so if you come here to our place to just look, you will see nothing but sweet babies waiting for a home, well, that's if there are any available as our babies find homes usually before they are weaned. This page is going to outline some do's or don'ts when visting us here at Pionus Parrot. Please remember, we are not a public place and this is our home and we are not set up for visitors to our aviaries... as we run a "closed avairy" concept. You are coming here to see the babies as you are possibly a prespective buyer to one of my babies! Prior to visiting us... usually our correspondances will be through emailing each other numerous times and if you decide you want one of my babies, I am going to ask you for some background on yourself and your parrot experiences. I am looking for is...The background info on yourself, are you married, have a family, what's your career, perhaps your age, your location... you know, typical things! The parrots you may presently have or have had in the past. I also usually do not give out my phone number until after you have made a deposit on a baby bird. I also do not give out my home address either unless I know I feel secure in knowing you well enough or you have made a deposit on a baby bird. I get people who email me for the first time and ask me directly for my home address and ask me the prices of my babies... and want to come here right away - well, for one thing this tells me they have not even looked at my website enough and know nothing about what I want them to know or how I go about things nor have they even looked at the Baby Bird Page... otherwise, they would also know my prices! On the onset of coming here... you will be emailed the directions on how to get here and this is usually like a day or so before your appointment time. When you come here be sure to bring a carrier/small cage for your bird that you are buying from us, do not plan to hold the bird on your shoulder on the way back home, it's not safe to do with a new bird who does not know you. Also, have a towel, bottled water readily available incase by chance you should break down going back home... and if it is hot out which most likely it will be, then you might want to bring a spray bottle with water in it as well incase the bird gets over heated should you break down on the way back home, then you can mist him with water to cool him down a bit! I provide some fruit/veggies for his ride back home with you. Things to keep in mind when making an appointment & visiting us: After you get here and before you come into the house, plan to remove your sunglasses, hat, and try to prevent from wearing black clothing if at all possible. You can bring your cage in with you first thing or go back out to your car afterwards to get it. When you come in the house... I will usually have the babies out prior to you coming in but sometimes they are in the cage if I have been busy prior to you getting here. Please do not go directly up to babies or should you see other pet birds. I'd like you to wash your hands at the sink first thing too before touching the babies. I generally like to be able to talk to you first for a few minutes and this too gives the babies time to see you standing there as well. Remember, I am not a public store. If you have children they should remain right by you, they should not be wandering around. Please keep in mind too that my babies are not use to seeing little kids so they are not use to seeing them and sometimes the birds are not sure about little kids... and may get caught off guard. If you have not paid in full upon pick up of your baby bird then plan to bring the balance you owe in cash. I do not accept checks upon delivery of your baby bird. I will give you things for your baby to take home to get by on for a few days such as Pellets, Seed, Beak Appetit, and some soft foods that they are use to eating... and couple of toy part items! You should also have these things readily available at your home prior to pick up of your baby. Also, another important step is, you should have made prior arrangement with an Avian Vet before even picking up your baby for his "well bird exam"... this helps so you fall within the 3-day health guarantee. Please read on Our Policies Page for more information you should know about our policies and health guarantee. Fill out the "Quarantine Form" linked from Our Policy Page and bring it with you or mail it to use prior to your baby bird pick up date. If you by chance have not turned it in, then you will have to fill one out while here. Thanks for reading! See ya soon! Back to Our Policies Page. Updated 2/27/09 |
