Importance of diet to prevent Gout
« on: January 01, 2014, 04:58:50 AM »
http://www.2ndchance.info/gout.htm

As most know pionus are susceptible to gout. In companion birds it seems a high protein diet can be a cause. A breeder to whom I spoke when I was trying to track Charlie's origin told me his experience with high protein diets with pionus and warned me not to feed high protein pellets. It is always good to get a reminder and I found this link helpful. I plan to reevaluate each of my pionus parrot's diets and adjust the best I can given it is not always easy to change diets in older birds.

I recently read that Pionus are susceptible to Gout, and lower protein is important for them. Thanks for the good reminder  :)

Yes something I knew that went to the backnof my mind  :wink1:. But a good reminder as my older pi eats too many pellets. A reminder as to why I need to keep trying with his diet
